Octopus Web Design - content management

What is a Content Management System?

A content management system is a computer software system for organizing and facilitating collaborative creation of documents and other content. A content management system is sometimes a web application used for managing web sites and web content, though in many cases, content management systems require special client software for editing and constructing articles. They can also be used for storage and single sourcing of documentation for a firm including but not limited to operators' manuals, technical manuals, sales guides, etc.
The term was originally used for web site publishing and management systems. Early content management systems were developed internally at organisations which were doing a lot of content publishing. In 1995, CNET spun out its internal development offerings into a separate company called Vignette, which opened up the market for commercial systems. As the market evolved, the scope of content management systems broadened, and the term is now used to refer to a range of technologies and techniques, including portal systems, wiki systems, and web-based groupware.

We Build Great Content Management Systems

We can build you a CMS that you will find easy to understand and operate.

Content Management Systems and Images

We believe in making life as easy as possible for you. Our CMS allows you to upload images that are resized automatically. This means that when you upload an image to insert into one of the content managed pages of your site you don't need to be an Photoshop expert. You can just plug in your camera to your computer using your USB cable and upload the picture directly to the site. All the other image manipulation is done by the web server such as resizing, converting to jpg and setting the image compression. The CMS will even create a thumbnail for you.
